Nearly 7,000 signatories for peace appeal in Cameroon

Dr Joy Alemazung, who is responsible for development-related education in Baden-Württemberg under the mandate of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, sees the future of his homeland Cameroon threatened by years of closed schools. "If children are not allowed access to education, then the country is doomed" he said. Together with Rev Johannes Stahl from Basel Mission Germany, they initiated the German call for peace through justice in Cameroon.

German MP defends his country’s decision to end military assistance to Cameroon, insists mediation to end separatist conflict is the priority

After leading a delegation of German MPs to Cameroon, Hon Christoph Hoffman says there's a need for Germany to play its part towards a peaceful resolution of the separatist conflict. "We see more of a role for Germany to mediate in the conflict in the South West rather than give more military aid to Cameroon security forces."

Hoffmann said that he had the impression that the Cameroonian leadership and parliamentarians were coming to a realization that suppressing the Anglophone regions would not be successful. "The parliamentarians told us that a visit by Chancellor Merkel to Cameroon could ignite a dialogue process which could lead to a solution," Hoffmann revealed. He added that, he has made this request in his letter to the chancellor, urging Merkel to talk to the various stakeholders in the conflict.
